Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Chairman Tony Carter was presented with the 2015 Beacon Award by the New Zealand Shareholder’s Association last week.
On presenting the award, Chairman of the Association John Hawkins said Mr Carter was a remarkable leader and strategist, with an approachable and down-to-earth manner. The association also cited Tony’s “determination to champion the highest standards of governance and ethical principles that put him above many others…. his unwavering commitment to best practise corporate governance, high ethical standards and willingness to engage fairly and openly with all shareholders.”
In addition to Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, Tony also chairs Air New Zealand and the Auckland Blues, and is a director of Fletcher Building and ANZ New Zealand. This accolade follows his 2013 Deloitte Top 200 Chairman of the Year award win.
The Beacon Award, first presented in 2002, recognises outstanding performance across criteria including leadership, corporate governance and respecting the rights of shareholders.
Tony Carter said it was an honour to receive the award. "The role of a director is to be custodian for the shareholders' investment and I am very fortunate to be recognised by the Shareholders Association in this way."
